50 Years of Proantioquia: A Legacy of Courage, Unity, and Transformation

Fifty years ago, an idea was born surrounded by courage, and today, in 2025, we celebrate it as a collective purpose and an example for Colombia and the world. Proantioquia (@proantioquia1), that spark that united a group of entrepreneurs under a simple yet powerful premise: there cannot be successful companies in failed societies. Today, five decades later, that conviction still inspires and guides those who believe in the power of unity to build a better future.

Imagine the scene: a meeting where everyone arrived on time, with the simplicity that characterizes great things and the clarity of a commitment that left no room for doubt. That day, in the midst of discussions and decisions, they addressed a dream that seemed impossible: the Medellín Metro. Thirty years ago, this system began operations, becoming the symbol that unites us all, the most precious asset of our city. It wasn’t a gift of chance nor an isolated work; it was the entrepreneurs affiliated with Proantioquia who pushed for its defense, financed its studies, and managed its implementation. In the Metro workshops, we celebrate that legacy which reminds us of an undeniable truth: when we unite, we achieve the unthinkable.

Regionalist? Of course, and proudly so. Why not be? How could we not? I am proud to defend our Antioquian entrepreneurs, capable of rallying wills, managing resources, and turning the dreams of Antioquia into tangible realities for all. Their vision transcends the individual; their ability to open dialogues and build bridges has been key to constructing a city that not only works but also inspires. They are entrepreneurs who think big, not only for their companies but for their people, their region, and all of Colombia. They care for the public good, that which belongs to everyone, with a generosity that never runs out.

Thank you, Proantioquia, for being a guiding light for so many. Thank you for your contributions, for 50 years of tireless work, for being a reference and an example. Being close to such a memorable day is a privilege. I wish many outside of Medellín could know this story, this collective effort that deserves to be shared and replicated. Infinite gratitude.

Signed, Lina Escobar.
