Guatemala City, April 30, 2025 — In a bold display of institutional sovereignty and regional cooperation, Guatemalan Attorney General María Consuelo Porras hosted her Salvadoran counterpart, Rodolfo Delgado, at the headquarters of the Public Ministry of Guatemala (MP). The high-level meeting reaffirmed a joint commitment to justice, security, and the fight against organized crime in Central America.
Firm Defense of Institutional Autonomy
In a powerful statement to the press, Attorney General Porras unequivocally defended the independence of Guatemala’s justice system:
“In Guatemala, we are committed to the autonomy of the Public Ministry. Our prosecutors work strictly according to the law, free from political or social interference,” she declared.
Porras sent a clear message to both internal and external actors:
“Any attempt to interfere in the operations of the Public Ministry will not be tolerated. Justice cannot be hijacked or manipulated.”
Her remarks were a direct rebuke to growing international criticism and misinformation campaigns aimed at weakening institutional integrity.
Justice Based on Evidence, Not Narratives
Porras further emphasized the MP’s adherence to facts and legal procedures, rejecting political agendas and false accusations:
“Our mission is to uphold the law without distinction or pressure. We do not criminalize indigenous peoples or human rights defenders. That claim is a blatant distortion of the truth.”
These words underscore the firm stance of Guatemala’s top prosecutor against those who seek to politicize the legal system for ideological or personal gain.
Strengthening Regional Cooperation
Rodolfo Delgado, Attorney General of El Salvador, praised the collaboration with Guatemala and confirmed upcoming regional efforts:
“Guatemala will host the next summit of attorneys general and experts in narcotics enforcement. This is a clear sign of the country’s leadership in the regional fight against transnational crime.”
Both prosecutors agreed on the urgent need for coordinated action against criminal networks that threaten peace, sovereignty, and citizen security across borders.
